Update - July 2021
Hi All
Just a quick update with some dates for your diaries.
Tuesday 3rd August - We've been asked if our roll up on that afternoon could be photographed for an exhibition of photo's highlighting the sports that feature in the Commonwealth Games. With this in mind we are asking all players on that afternoon to wear grey trousers with a club shirt.
Tuesday 24th August - We are arranging a return match with Wyndthorpe (Graham Doughty's club from Doncaster}. They will be arriving at about 1pm for a game at 2pm. They are bringing 6 rinks of triples. There will be a light meal afterwards with a raffle. If you want to play then you will need to put your name down in the Pavilion. We will play in grey's and it will cost £3 for the game including the meal. If you have anything you'd like to donate for the raffle we would be grateful!
7th November - The AGM will take place. This is an important meeting as we need to change the constitution to reflect the present situation of the club. We would like as many members as possible to attend so we have a good discussion on the changes suggested.
There are still some club matches to play on Saturdays and Captains Day on Sunday 22nd August. Please put your names down for these games if you want to play.
Thanks
Jon
Returning to Play 2021 - April Update
Great to see lots of you on Sunday as well as some new faces! The fixtures that we will be playing this year are now available (click here).
If you want to play you will need to sign up on the team lists in the corridor of the pavilion. We are also starting the roll ups this week. 1pm for 1.30pm on Tuesdays and 10am for 10.30am on Fridays. As always just turn up and we'll work out whether we play triples or rinks depending on the number of players turning up.
As I wrote in an earlier email, we will be charging £2 a session. This is to cover the outgoings that we've had over the winter for the upkeep of the green, as we are not charging club fees this year.
Hope to see you all soon.
Jon
Returning to Play 2021 - April 2021
We will be opening the green on Sunday 25th April at 2pm. The afternoon will take its usual form with teams chosen out of a hat for each game. All are welcome and if you know of any one who would like to try the game, bring them down. All they need is some trainers! I hope as many of you as possible will come down.
We will be entering teams into the men's Evergreen (over 60's) and BBA leagues and with this in mind I would be grateful if the men could reply to me asap whether they want to play in those teams.
We will be playing roll ups each week as we did last year, but there will be a charge of £2 a game. For those members who paid last year, there will be no club fee this year but if you didn't pay then you will have to this year. For those who joined last year, again there will be no club fee and anybody who joins this year will not have to pay either.
When you come down you will notice quite a lot of change. The top green has been converted into a crown bowls green and there are a couple of shelters going up by it. Rob has worked hard to try and get the moss out from our green before it took over! We hope that by time we open the water will have been restored. It wasn't cut off due to the fire but by mistake when Severn Trent put the new water main in!
Hope to see you all on the 25th!

Update from the Chairman - 10 February 2021
Just a quick update to let you all know what's been going on.
I know that a couple of you have contracted Covid-19 and have thankfully come through it. I hope your recuperation continues and we'll see you back bowling this year.
The pavilion has been reconnected to the electricity but not the water. There was going to be a meeting at the end of last week to see if it was feasible to reconnect the water but they were talking about it would have to be done by digging up from the middle of the road by the factory as they believe the existing water main would have been melted by the fire. As yet I haven't heard of any outcome or even if the meeting took place.
The site has been cleared but we do not know what Mondelez is going to do with it.
We haven't had a Committee meeting yet, for obvious reasons, but I cannot see why we will not open if only for social bowling as we did last year. The crown green has been worked on over the last few months and will be ready to play on this year and Rob is working hard on our green that has taken a bit of a battering over the winter. I'm sure that come the warmer weather when we can get down there and help out that the green will be in fine fettle!
I will let you know when we will be opening as soon as we've been able to have a meeting.
Stay safe

Message from the Chairman - 15 September 2020
It has been the best of years and the worst of years!
Let’s start with the best. We have gained several new members, Bob and Janet, Bob and Lyn, Pat, Sandra, Keith and Charlie. Bob, Lyn and Pat were completely new to the game but have taken to it like ducks to water! Welcome to all and if you know anyone else who would like to join let us know. The fees for next year will be zero for all new members who joined this year and anybody who joins next year, so there is no better time to start and enjoy the game. All members who paid this year will receive a free year but any member who did not pay to join this year will have to pay next year.
A very big thank you must be given once again to Ken for working so hard on the green. Even during lockdown he managed to carry on working to make sure the green was playable. Thanks Ken.
We have had a summer of playing roll ups, three times a week. These games have been what I see bowling should be all about. Everybody agrees that they have been really enjoyable, giving players a safe environment to exercise and enjoy the game they love, with a little of the usual banter thrown in! I hope they will continue next year and be as well supported. The green will closed on Monday 14th Sept. to allow time for Ken to re-seed and generally do what needs doing. As I’m writing this it has been decided that Birmingham will be put back into a form of lockdown. This means no mixing with anybody from other households, starting on Tuesday 15th. So we would have to finish anyway."
"This leads me into the worst of times. Lockdown meant that there were no leagues to play or weekend club games. We were being constantly vandalised with the police and Cadbury security doing very little. This changed when they finally put up a temporary fence at the gate and repaired the equipment shed doors. Since then the incidents of vandalism have stopped. We had to lock the side gate, but this is a small price to pay for the security we now have.
As mentioned earlier in the year, the crown green players have been working hard to raise some crowns and generally get the top green into a playable state for next year. The sharing of the club facilities and greens, has worked far better than I think anybody thought it would, which is great news. Of course that leads me into the terrible fire that saw the Cadbury Club burnt to the ground. This has left our pavilion without any electricity or water at the moment. To use a loo you have to flush with a bucket of rain water! Mondelez are actively looking to reconnect both but have given no timetable for it.
One of the knock on effects of this is the fact that we have no system for watering the green. This impacts the new crown green far more as they have just laid a considerable amount of new turf to help build their crowns and without them being well watered, the turf could die. It’s also sods law that we are going to experience a rise in the temperature during the next week! Mary Vale Road is to be closed on the 17th for more work by Severn Trent , with the car park also closed so there is no access for the next couple of weeks.
We can only hope that next year will be a lot better and I’m looking forward to greeting you all in April next year! I will of course keep you updated on the unfolding situation regarding the Cadbury Club and when we get reconnected.
Jon
